In principle, the export ban on wheat, rye, barley, maize and a coarse grain called meslin is in effect from this Tuesday through June 30th. Abramchenko explains that “the export of grain is permitted within the framework of quotas based on individual licenses”. Suspension applies until the end of August for sugar and sugar raw materials.

Exceptions should be made to exports to the Russian-controlled Eurasian Economic Union and to the separatist republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, which were separated from Ukraine.
Russia is the world’s largest wheat exporter. Ukraine’s neighboring Ukraine, where Russia is at war, is also a major producer. According to experts, disturbances in grain exports between the two countries could lead to massive price hikes in global agricultural markets.
